Due to its spectacular beauty, the village of Marvão is a National Monument and has been a candidate for a World Monument, like Évora (125km) and Caceres in Spain (120km) already are.
If the village of Marvão is accepted as a World Monument, a new tourist triangle will emerge along with the existing one
on the North Alentejo (Portalegre, Castelo de Vide and Marvão).
The S. Mamede Natural Park is a protected area where chestnut, holm, cork and pine trees have their important and spectacular presence.
On each November, Marvão embraces a festival in honor of the chestnut trees.
